![]() ![]() These women I ride with are hardcore riders. If you don't find the group you vibe with it'll never be worth the effort. I used to ride with a bunch guys trying to act tough using brain buckets and slamming back whiskey before we'd go for like a 40 min ride. My current group is a women's MC that doesn't party when riding and focuses on safety and skills. I used to ride with an "org" (explicitly not mc or rc) and they had the culture you mentioned that can often be ascribed to bikers. I won't paint all clubs as the shining pinnacle of bikers and human beings but they're no different to you on a personal level.Ī couple years ago I started riding with a MC and it's been the best for augmenting skills and endurance, plus community. That's earned not given, and it's hard thing to earn. One of the biggest aspects in that life is RESPECT. Judge us with preconceived notions gained through others experiences and no one will even look at you yet alone talk to you. You'd find here you're treated how you treat others, act like king of the road and try barging into the pack and it'll be met in kind, turn up to a meet calling MCs dumb and youll find yourself unwelcome. We lead a different lifestyle and have an approach to things that's different to how normal society operates but we typically aren't any worse than your average civilian or motorcyclist. I can't speak for American clubs but British and European clubs are run with a level of integrity, honour and respect for those within and outside of clubs that help others recognise we aren't the arseholes the media wants others to think. ![]() If those were the kind of clubs he was hanging about with I'd say he was looking in the wrong places. So I'd start by saying that your uncles experiences are not your experiences. But groups of them have been doing street takeovers, which is pretty dumb, too. Some seem to be sticking to the $15K+ bikes favored by traditional MC club riders, but I and most of those I spoke with in my class are mainly interested in smaller, lighter, more affordable dual sports and adventure motorcycles. So it'll be interesting to see how manufacturers respond. That and I missed the dirt bike I rode in my early teens. Well, one was very very against EVs of any type, and had more of the "do dumb things on motorcycles" mentality, but that person did not complete the course.Īnyway, I took the course and got back on a motorcycle for the first time in decades for a fun, reasonably affordable transportation option between my bicycle and car, especially as bicycling on roads shared with motor vehicles is very risky where I live. There was also discussion and questions about electric motorcycles, progress, and affordability. Similar to the younger e-bike and even commuter bicycle riders I've had a chance to talk to (I ride a bicycle a lot). And also a way to help get out, explore, and have fun after being cooped up during the pandemic. It's a very limited sample, but still.įrom discussions, several were looking at motorcycles as comparatively affordable ways to get around, as cars have gotten very expensive and large. It’s just a matter of time.įor those discussing demographics and age, I took the basic MSF course a few weeks ago, and most of the class were late teens to late 20s and seemed pretty excited. But I went to a motorcycle festival two weeks ago and here’s what I noticed: there are far fewer younger people riding than older people. Motorcycle clubs can do great and good things, but too many attract the wrong people for the wrong reasons. I’ve been through swamps and valleys and I made a snowball at the top of a mountain in July once. ![]() Across a desert with moonlight so bright I needed my tinted visor. I’ve ridden my bike through inner city streets and across rolling prairie. There are exceptions - I was in the Gold Wing Road Rider Association before they broke apart and although I’m not as old as most of those guys (ok any of those guys), they were a great bunch of people to hang around with. The reason for this is when you get them in groups, the average IQ goes way down and the average testosterone goes way up. Here’s my honest truth: I love motorcycles. ![]()
